COLLEGES THAT PROVIDE DAY CARE FOR STUDENTS

Eastern Michigan University
Students are encouraged to file the Free Application for Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov. The Office of Financial Aid will work with students to give them options to fund their educational costs which could include child care.

Oakland University
The university does not specifically have a grant or scholarship dedicated to child care, but the director of Student Financial Services says that they have access to a lot of grants for low-income students that can be used for whatever needs the students have and that they work hard to help these students get the means to stay in school.

Wayne State University
1. GSRP is a full-day program (8:30 - 3:00) that is free of charge to families who meet the eligibility criteria established by the Michigan Department of Education. Children must be four years old by December 1st of the program year and parents/guardians must be able to document two eligibility factors in accordance with the guidelines.

2. CCAMPIS is a full day program (8:30 - 4:30) that is free of charge to parents who are undergraduate students at Wayne State University and Pell Grant eligible. Parents must be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours during the academic year and maintain a GPA of 2.0.

University of Michigan

 
The U-M Child Care Subsidy Program, administered through the Office of Financial Aid, provides funds to undergraduate and graduate students to assist them in meeting the cost of licensed child care provided at a child care center, family or group child care home. Students may apply even if they are not currently using a licensed child care provider, but must enroll with a licensed program to receive the grant.

For assistance in locating a licensed child care center or home, U-M families can search the online child care provider databases by clicking here. U-M families who need additional assistance with navigating the databases may contact worklife@umich.edu or 734-936-8677.

The subsidy provides up to $4,672 per academic year for one child, up to $6,952 for two children and up to $9020 for three or more children. Spring/Summer half-term awards are also available.

To qualify, a student must demonstrate financial need and utilize child care because he/she is a single parent, or if married, has a spouse/partner who is also a student and/or gainfully employed. Loans to cover child care expenses for students - U of M Financial Aid Office. Students with unmet financial needs may apply for loans to cover the full cost of their childcare expenses through the financial aid office. The U-M Child Care Tuition Grant for Faculty, Staff and Students:
The Child Care Tuition Grant (CCTG) is a University of Michigan program designed to assist families with young children meet the cost of licensed child care at our central and north campus centers: U-M Towsley Children's House, U-M North Campus Children's Center and the U-M Health System Children's Center. The program is funded by the Provost's Office. It is available to income-eligible U-M faculty, staff and students who have children who are already enrolled at the participating centers. Eligibility for the CCTG is determined by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines for Washtenaw County based on family size and median income and awards vary according to these criteria. GOVERNMENT AID FOR CHILD CARE

Child Care Assistance - Department of Health & Human Services
If you cannot afford child care, payment assistance is available to parents who meet eligibility requirements. DHHS partners with the Michigan Department of Education to provide child care assistance, billing, and payments. Contact your local DHHS office. You can go to this website and click on your county to view a list of all offices in that county.

Great Start to Quality
Free and Low Cost Quality Child Care and preschool.   The Office of Great Start has been charged with ensuring that all children birth to age eight, especially those in highest need, have access to high-quality early learning and development programs and enter kindergarten prepared for success. The Governor outlined a single set of early childhood outcomes against which all public investments will be assessed:
Children born healthy
Children healthy, thriving, and developmentally on track from birth to third grade
Children developmentally ready to succeed in school at the time of school entry
Children prepared to succeed in fourth grade and beyond by reading proficiently by the end of third grade.
